September is the month of the harvest

Do you want to have a unique experience? Come to Porto and the North of Portugal in September and be a part of the grape harvest! Throughout the Douro demarcated wine region you will find several places where you can take part in this tradition and be part of the production of the best wines from the Douro region.

The Douro was the first wine-producing region in the world that was demarcated, in 1756. The terraces scattered throughout the region mark the landscape of the Alto Douro, in the north of Portugal, in a remarkable way, a landscape built on a stunning dialogue between man and nature. The area is a World Heritage Site, title awarded in 2001 by UNESCO. From here, comes not only Port wine, but also other wines that are highly appreciated worldwide.

Join in the grape harvest

There are several wine producing farms that give visitors the chance to be a part of the manufacturing process, places where you can spend the weekend, such as the Quinta da Pacheca and the Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, which offers programs where you can combine the work of the harvest with a visit to the region, letting yourself be marveled by the Douro landscapes.

CP - Trains of Portugal also has the "Wine Harvest Festival" program that in addition to a trip from Porto to Régua, includes a visit to the winery at Quinta da Campanhã, with the possibility of participating in the famous "lagaradas" (name given to the drop, or "largar", of grapes in the wine press).

In this trip to the North of Portugal be sure to stop by Porto. Also here you will have the opportunity to learn more about the wines of the region by tasting them and visit the cellars. Once you purchase our Porto Card you will have the opportunity to get better prices in the purchase of these visits.

Let us help you plan this stay at Porto and North of Portugal and let yourself be enchanted by the unique landscape and the experiences that you can live in this region.
